Due to a forecast for black ice, and the likelihood that many secondary roads will refreeze overnight, all District Five Schools will be CLOSED Friday, January 19. Many secondary roads remain simply too dangerous for our buses or students to travel.

We've heard from many of you regarding makeup days, so we thought we'd pass along some information.
As of today, we've missed 4 days due to weather closures this school year (9/11, 1/8, 1/17 and 1/18).
State law requires students make up at least 3 days which are built into our calendar. This year, those days are February 19, March 30, and June 1.
The law also allows local school boards to forgive up to 3 days, once the first 3 days are made up. At this point, our board would be asked to forgive the 4th day and possibly the 5th and 6th days if they occur this winter.
If we exceed 6 days missed, the State Board of Education has the power to forgive up to 3 additional days.
Should a district miss 10 or more days, it's up to the state legislature to forgive the additional days.
This only applies to students. Employees are paid at a daily rate. For example, teachers are paid to work 190 days. With that in mind, employees have to make up the time missed when schools are closed. We attempt to be as flexible as possible in allowing hours to count towards this time. ... See MoreSee Less
